Yancy Butler was recently featured as the Actress of the Week on AskMen.com. I found the format for reviewing her interesting and including bits of stuff that I hadn't read before. There is no mention of any current projects.

While the television series may have ended, the comic book continues. However an upcoming issue seems to be following the lead of the TV program Survivor, well, sort of, according to Comics Continuum.

"Top Cow Productions will be staging "a reverse Survivor" with its Witchblade title this fall, culminating in the deaths of two characters.

Top Cow's Matt Hawkins told The Continuum that a voting process beginning in Witchblade #70 will result in the deaths of two of book's cast. A pool of 12 characters will be presented in that issue, with readers voting which two characters they want to protect. Each issue, two more characters will be protected, until the last two remaining are killed in Witchblade #75"

FX Network has its page up for Nip/Tuck which premieres July 22nd with a 90 minute episode. The show will air Tuesdays at 10 pm. A trailer is up on the FX site for viewing. Not too much with John Hensley, though.

I think I'll tune in to at least the first ep to see what it's like. I've always thought Julian McMahon was yummy ever since he appeared on Another World as Ian Rain over 10 years ago, LOL. :)

Nip/Tuck News:

Here's a May 28th Entertainment Tonight article about the upcoming series Nip/Tuck airing in late July on FX network. John Hensley (Gabriel) will be one of the stars of this new series.

John Hensley (Gabriel) stars in the upcoming movie Peoples which is currently in post-production with no set release date. "Peoples is a unique bend of witty, low-brow humor and gritty, authentic drama. Will Yun Lee's upcoming movie Torque is now expected to be released in the Fall of 2003. Much like Eric Etebari, Will has been cast in a racing film, the main difference being this one involves motorcycles instead of fast cars. Not only is Torque in the same genre as the Fast and the Furious 2, it's being made by the same production company. Here's what Yahoo says about the film and its upcoming release date.

Also of note: The Fast and the Furious 2 is now being referred to as 2 Fast 2 Furious Here's what Yahoo says about it. 2 Fast 2 Furious is expected to be released June 6th 2003.

"Fans should be on the look out for the next time Mariah Carey's new video "Boy I Need You" is on, because Will Yun Lee makes an appearance as her tough-guy bodyguard. He is in it for about a third of the video and there is plenty of shirtless time and sword action. The video itself is kind of surreal, but Will Yun Lee looks awesome in it.

Also, the actor who played Mobius [Peter Mensah] will be in Bruce Willis' new movie "Tears of the Sun" March 17th 2003. I'm not exactly sure of Mensah's role within the film, but this is what Yahoo! Movies said about it:

"Thriller and Action/AdventureA team of Navy SEALS (led by Willis) is sent into the jungle in the heart of Nigeria on a search-and-rescue mission for a doctor (Bellucci). When they get to the village, the doctor says that she'll only leave if 70 refugees can leave too, which changes the mission's scope... can a handful of U.S. soldiers get to their rendezvous point before the several hundred African soldiers on their tail get to them first?"

I believe he is the leader of the African soldiers. Mensah was on screen during much of the preview."

Comics Continuum is reporting that Witchblade actors Anthony Cistaro, Eric Etebari and John Hensley raised $10,113 from 124 autographed items in the Champions of Charity Auction. Cistaro's charity was Habitat for Humanity - Los Angeles. Etebari selected Hollygrove in Los Angeles. Hensley chose Beacon House in Louisville.

And Comics2Film has highlighted that Witchblade Central Station is continuing its crusade to get another TV network to pick up a third season of Witchblade. Recently WCS got further encouragement from Anthony Cistaro (Irons) and David Chokachi (Jake) to keep pushing for a third season. Their comments are posted at the WCS website.

TNT Chops 'Witchblade' Despite Strong Ratings

"The signature TNT drama series -- which went on temporary hiatus this year while series star Yancy Butler underwent alcohol rehab -- did not snag a renewal, the cable network confirmed Tuesday.......

"Witchblade" has been considered a success on many levels, including in the ratings, so the cancellation is likely to raise a few eyebrows in TV land.....

....insiders said the production stumbles related to Butler's health during the most recent season may have played a part. Warner Bros. Television, which produces the show with Top Cow Prods. and Halsted Pictures, declined to comment. Butler's manager also was mum."

A Variety article on summer ratings of the Cable networks listed that Witchblade was pulling in a 2.1. What the article didn't mention is that this number is down from the 3+ the show was pulling in last season. But this rating is still better than the cable average of 2.

Additionally they have reported on the upcoming Hollygrove & Habitat - Champions for Charity Auction. Comics Continuum has reported that Grace Slick [Jefferson Airplane] is providing the voice of the Witchblade in the season finale Ubique. Her 'appearance' follows two other classic rockers that have appeared on Witchblade, Roger Daltrey of The Who and Joe Butler of the Lovin' Spoonful.

* 12 - 2 p.m. - "Emergence/Destiny"
* In the two-hour season premiere, New York detective Sara Pezzini (Yancy Butler) saves the life of her partner, Danny Woo (Will Yun
Lee), when she is chosen to wield the Witchblade. The sinister Kenneth Irons (Anthony Cistaro) vows to take the powerful weapon from her, and she has to master the powers in time to defend her destiny. * A new designer drug hits the streets and causes the deaths of a teen-age girl and her boyfriend. Comics Continuum reported that David Chokachi, who plays Jake in TNT's Witchblade, appeared on E! News Daily on Friday, promoting the show. He said Monday's episode will have a Fight Club element.

Variety made mention of the upcoming Witchblade Marathon along with its story on fX gearing up to run a marathon of 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland. The Witchblade Marathon will air on TNT on Sunday, August 25th. The 11 previously aired season two episodes will be shown back to back. The season two finale will air Monday, August 26th.

Ralph Hemecker, executive producer of Witchblade, has been doing the interview circuit and talked with Comics2Film. This go round he discussed the season finale, a possible season 3, and the potential for a Soundtrack CD and DVDs of the first two seasons. He also responded to the fan response he's received at the killing off of Kenneth Irons early in the season. And he mentioned that he has begun to develop another comic book based TV show to be made some time in the future. The good thing abut Hemecker is he seems to give different interviews, so each one gives unique material, mixed in with the same basic details.

Ralph Hemecker discusses the last two episodes of season 2 of Witchblade with Comics Continuum, describing them as the best of the series. Hemecker also talks about the return of Conchobar, killing Kenneth Irons, Cyberfaust.com [or perhaps more likely .net] and a possible third season.

TNT is no longer accepting fanmail for the cast of Witchblade though they will still accept e-mail messages. TNT has provided addresses for the individual actors where fanmail can be sent. Also MadBlast has it's blurb about the new season, but it takes a different approach relating that the premiere is airing on Father's Day and Yancy Butler's father appears in the first episode. Science Fiction Weekly has some previous interviews with Yancy Butler (Sara Pezzini) and David Chokachi (Jake McCartey). The interview with Yancy includes her explaining what attracted her to the role of Sara Pezzini. That interview dates to the airing of the original TNT movie.

The interview with David dates to the beginning of the series and details his thoughts on his character as well as what it's like working with the cast and crew of Witchblade, and even his favorite Sci-Fi character.

Whoosh! has posted a listing of episode titles for season 2. Granted these titles are likely to be be tentative, but they do make you question what the episodes may in fact be about. For example, 209 is set to be titled Hierophant. That is a major arcana card in a tarot deck. Will the episode be highly immersed in the occult, tarot, and/or peering into the future? And the finale is set to be called Encore. Will Sara invoke the Witchblade to turn back time once again? Hopefully production will begin again soon so that we have the opportunity to find out.

Comics Continuum further describes Joe Butler's role in the season opener airing June 16th. Also, it reports that there is still no word yet from TNT if the second season will extend beyond six episodes. That's where production was halted as Yancy Butler voluntarily admitted herself to a rehabilitation center for alcohol treatment. [As reported by Comics Continuum, since Variety requires a subscription-->] "Using unnamed 'insiders close to the show,' Variety has reported that the producers intend to go back into production in the next few weeks, upon a hopefully successful completion of Butler's treatment. While those same insiders said the producers and network plan to stick with Butler if at all possible, they have put feelers out for a replacement."

I certainly hope it doesn't come down to being a recast situation. It's Yancy's Butler's portrayal of Sara Pezzini that makes the show click, at least for me.

Additionally the Comics Continuum report for May 24th also includes 8 newly released promo photos of Yancy Butler and 3 of Will Yun Lee (Danny). I must say the pictures of Will look hot. *eg*

Comics Continnum reports filming of Witchblade has been temporarily shut down while Yancy Butler has voluntarily checked herself into a rehabilitation center for alcohol treatment. So far, six of the thirteen episodes are 'in the can.' The new season will premiere on June 16th as scheduled.

The pressures of filming are greatest on the star of a series, who must carry the bulk of the scenes, learning dialogue and blocking out action scenes. This involves long hour days (many 12 hours+) doing the actual filming and preparing for upcoming scenes. Not to mention the extra work necessary to get materials ready for promoting the upcoming new season. And Yancy Butler has been reported on several occasions as having a strong work ethic and someone who is a great pleasure to work with. However, with such pressures, alcohol can become a crutch to wind down after an adrenaline filled day. I'm glad to see that when she saw her use of alcohol had become a problem, she sought help. There have been so many others that have been destroyed by addiction when the adage 'the show must go on' prevailed over the actor's personal needs.

Also, Conrad Dunn (aka George Jenesky) will reprise his role as Gallo in Season 2. Checking IMDB, it appears more recently he is using his birth name of Conrad Dunn, while viewers familiar with Days of Our Lives from the late 1980s to 1990 may recall 'George Jenesky' playing Nick Corelli on the daytime drama. If one were to go back even further, you may recall seeing him in such movies as Stripes (1981) and Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986).

Comics Contiuum has a blurb about how David Chokachi (Jake) sees his character evolving in this second season. It also includes several season 2 photo shoot pics of Jake. It appears they are going with a more messy look for his hair rather than the outdated spike look. And this Jake appears not to be clean-shaven. Edgier perhaps. The new season starts Sunday, June 16th at 8 pm EDT with the 2 episodes, Emergence and Destiny. Otherwise, Witchblade will normally air Monday evenings at 9 pm EDT.

As I was on the phone last night, half watching ER, who appears on the TV screen but Nester Serrano (Captain Dante). He plays some sort of government official who arrives on the scene when two children at the hospital present with what appears to be Smallpox. I didn't catch his character's name and exact affiliation. I think the part 2 to this episode is next week and he will likely appear in that episode as well. Will Yun Lee (Danny) is reported to have been cast in the next James Bond film, Die Another Day. No further details on his character are available in this 1/25/02 report by Ananova.com. Okay, it is 'old' news' but I hadn't heard it yet, LOL. :)

Additionally an unofficial Bond 20 site reveals Lee's character as a major villain in the film, Colonel Moon, a power-crazed North Korean Colonel hell-bent on re-uniting North and South Korea, and eventually waging war against Japan and the US.
